Margaret Haddix's latest series entitled the Missing: Book 1 begins with the book Found. Jonah has always known that he was adopted and that his sister Katherine is the natural child of his supportive parents. As he becomes a 7th grader and starts to be more self absorbed, he begins to ask questions about his birth parents. Jonah befriends Chip Watson, another boy his age who has just discovered that he is adopted. Anger doesn't begin to describe how betrayed Chip feels about having had his adoption hidden from him by his less than helpful, very self-absorbed parents. When both receive messages such as "You are one of the missing," and "Beware, they are coming for you, " it opens up a mystery that the three try to solve. Maybe finding out about their true fate will be more disturbing than not knowing how they came to live in the same town with 34 other orphaned babies.
